Health benefits of milk

Growing big and strong is fondly associated with drinking milk and that couldn’t be more correct. Milk is a highly nutritious drink that we relegate to being used only for breakfast in tea, pap, and other morning meals. This health drink is not specific to just children but can be of benefits to even adults. Don’t allow yourself to be taken in by false ideas about milk that people peddle about. For example, people say organic milk is healthier than regular milk. They are actually both nutritious so don’t be fooled. Here are other things you didn’t know about milk.

Rehydration

The water content of milk is so much that it is enough to keep one hydrated especially for a person who is super active and busy.

Increases life span

This might seem like an exaggeration but research has shown that drinking milk could reduce the risk of dying of heart disease or stroke by as much as 20 percent.

Healthy bones

Strong bones have long been linked with a good intake of milk and calcium is the element that ensures that. Now guess what is an excellent source of calcium… that’s right! Milk is. It is good for proper bone structure and decreasing bone growth disorders.

Vitamin D

If milk contains a whole lot of calcium then you need a particular vitamin to absorb it and that is vitamin D. Milk is like a complete package which offers calcium and the nutrient needed to absorb it. Vitamin D also reduces inflammation and increases immune function.

Improving dental health

Young children should be encouraged to drink milk regularly as it protects the enamel thus reducing the possibility of developing decayed teeth and weak gums.

Five reasons silent treatment shouldn’t be an option

Loved ones might piss you off so much that you decide to ‘lock up’. You feel they deserve to be given a cold shoulder just so they can understand the gravity of what they have done or how much they have annoyed you. You may feel justified in ‘punishing’ them but more often than not in your bid to inflict hurt on them, you do so on yourself instead. The silent treatment should not an option to prove how upset you are. Rather, talk it out and move on, here are five reasons why:

The silent treatment usually blows the problem out of proportion. After a while, you may even forget why you are fighting in the first place and over time, the reason for the fight would not be worth keeping malice.

It consumes your time and energy. Except you are very vindictive, it takes conscious effort to remember that you are not talking to a loved one so what happens is that at times you have information or gossip to share and then you want to tell that person but you suddenly remember you are meant to be keeping malice. That’s just work! It hinders you from moving forward. Giving someone the silent treatment means whatever that person has done to you festers in your mind and then you have to shoulder that baggage always.

If this happens with someone you are really close to, it can affect your other relationships. You might find yourself wanting to tell other people over and over how you were hurt. This stops you from enjoying other relationships and might make people tire of you.

It makes you the bad guy. This might seem like a silly reason not to keep malice but just for the fact that you don’t want to be caught being the offender, be the bigger person and let go.

Burnaboy shows off his babe cooking in the kitchen

Recently Uju Stella dragged the Reggae dancehall star into a messy controversy by claiming she was pregnant for the singer. The self-acclaimed potential Burnaboy’s baby-mama showed off her baby bump on social media to back up her claims of being pregnant for real. But then, the baby bump couldn’t be found again some weeks ago. It paranormally disappeared!

Burnaboy was displeased with the media for paying attention to Uju’s claims of being pregnant for him. It is yet to be known what actually became of the baby bump Uju Stella displayed on social media. There are no traces whatsoever to a possible abortion or miscarriage. Neither has substantial statements been made in that regard.

Maybe the “Soke” singer is finally clarifying his fans about his relationship status by sharing a video of a lady cooking in the kitchen. He tagged the video; “Studio at the back, mama in the kitchen.” This completely rules out any assumptions of him still being connected to Uju Stella. The unnamed lady in the footage is a young light-skinned beauty who seems to be the one rocking Burnaboy’s boat at the moment. Did you day it will not last? Let's wait and see.

D'banj claps back at fan that compared his music to a heap of refuse dump

Some fans won't just stop getting on the nerves of celebrities. Over time, it has always been an "operation slander the celebrities" for any mistake they make. It's high time some people understood that these celebrities are humans too, and are prone to mistakes like all of us. But even when that is well-known, some people won’t just stop. It would have been better if they ended at slandering celebrities for their mistakes alone. But no. It has gotten past that.

Now, anything a celebrity does, which does not go down well with some fans, will attract some degree of slander. It does not matter whether what the celebrity did was right or wrong. As long as it does not go down well with a fan, slanders will follow. That is how one fan compared the Kokomaster’s music to a heap of refuse dump simply because he did not like the music or something. Well, D’banj did well to send him a soothing reply.

The fan, who goes by the twitter username, “@OlubunmiMiles,” took to his page to tag “@iamdbanj” in a post that had a picture of a refuse dump attached to it, and then questioning the quality of one of D’banj’s track titled “FOCUS” by asking; “@iamdbanj – I mean no disrespect oo. But to be #Candid, what’s the difference between this your “FOCUS” track and this picture?” D’banj didn’t have much to say to him. He simply replied him saying: “YOUR BRAIN.”

Claudio Ranieri: Champions League isn't to blame for Leicester's domestic form

Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri has dismissed suggestions the Foxes have been distracted by the Champions League.

The struggling Premier League champions will reach the last 16 with a draw against Club Brugge on Tuesday and only have to better Porto's result against Copenhagen to win Group G.

Ranieri's men are unbeaten in Europe this season and are yet to concede a goal, but their league title defence is in tatters.

Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Watford left Leicester two points above the relegation zone and they have lost twice as many games, six, as they did during last season's shock triumph.

Leicester are top of Group G, three points clear of Porto, but have only won three league games this season - failing to win before any European game - yet Ranieri insisted they remain focused on both fronts.

He said: "No, I don't think it's a distraction. It's enjoyment. I don't see the difference.

"If you see the match against Watford and the match against Copenhagen or Brugge or Porto, it's the same. The difference is in the Champions League matches we score, in the other matches no.

"Our focus is this: try to win tomorrow and then go back into the Premier League and try to improve our table.

"Yes of course I have to work harder, everyone has to work harder.

The team, the lads are very strong and we know we have to fight a lot and we have to change this way but now we have the opportunity to go in the Champions League knockouts.

"We achieved the third position (in the group) but of course now we want to achieve something more. Our fairytale is continuing, we did something special last season and we're doing it again this season."

Exactly a year ago Jamie Vardy equalled the Premier League goalscoring record by netting in his 10th straight game, a 3-0 win at Newcastle.

A week later he broke it against Manchester United but is now without a goal in his last 13 Leicester games. The 29-year-old scored in England's 2-2 draw with Spain last week but has not had a shot on target for his club since September.

Riyad Mahrez is also struggling to find top form but does have three goals and one assist in Europe having scored twice in September's 3-0 win in Belgium.

He has scored just one goal from open play in his last 20 club games and the Algerian admitted performing in the Champions League brings the best out of him.

"To be honest I enjoy the Champions League like the Premier League. When I was younger we wanted to play in the Champions League and now we are playing in this and we are doing well," he said.

"There is no special game for me because all the games are important and I enjoy all the games.

"We are winning the games in the Champions League. Obviously when we win there are some players who come on to the team and score goals. Islam (Slimani) scores goals and we defend very well. Zero goals conceded, so when we start to win in the Premier League as well everyone will be better."

Kasper Schmeichel remains sidelined with the hand he fractured in the 0-0 draw in Copenhagen this month and Slimani is out with a groin injury while Nampalys Mendy and Ben Chilwell (both ankle) are also sidelined.

Davido curses Donald Trump in a video uses the "F" word on him

The president-elect of the United States of America, Donald trump, may be on a quest to flush out Africans from his state as alleged. But such actions don't extend to African celebrities based abroad, even though they come from "that country whose citizens can't feed three times daily. You know the country? Lol. But then, Davido doesn't seem like one from such a country. Or perhaps, "such a family."

That explains his audacity overtime. He has graduated from exchanging words with his baby-mama and beating up folks who attempt to pull a prank on him. Now he's bashing at the soon-to-be number one personality in the world, not minding that he has a lot of dealings to undertake in the white President's nation. While hanging out with his friends in a hotel, the DMW boss videoed himself and his guys and made the most unlikely of statements.

In the video, Davido and his guys are seen clustering at a spot and all trying to talk to the camera. Suddenly, the sonny music star just blotted out the words: "FUCK DONALD TRUMP." His guys started laughing. But one of them politely rebuked him and somewhat pointed out to him the woes that could follow that statement. But Davido ignored him and again said: "I HAVE MY GREEN CARD ALREADY. SO FUCK DONALD TRUMP." Fans have since been wondering what Trump will do when he sees that video. What do you think he will do?

Pls drop your comments thank you.

Korede Bello's sarcastic responds to a rude fan

There are no celebrities without fans. If you hear a certain celebrity is richer thank the other, it doesn't necessarily mean he or she really knows the music business better than the other. It simply means the richer celebrity has more fans to patronize her. Take for instance Tiwa Savage and Tobby Grey. You will all agree with me that Tiwa Savage is richer than Tobby Grey, even when fans allege that Tobby Grey is a better singer than Tiwa Savage. I bet some of us don't even know who Tobby Grey is. Lol.

So you see that Tiwa has more fans, so she bags more money from album sales and shows since she will always be paid heavily, being that her involvement in a particular event aids profitable turnouts, which can be interpreted as "so much money." For this reason, fans are highly esteemed by celebrities, as all celebrities want to keep getting more love from them, as well as run a good music business using their traffic. But some fans take advantage of that privilege and do or say things that are unacceptable. Some celebrities ignore seeming insults from fans.

However, some don't give a rat's ass. They simply clap back outrightly. And some others, however, use sarcasm to upset fans who bash them, just like what Korede Bello did this fan of his. The singer shared a photo of Rihanna, wearing an outfit that resembles the one he wore to the MAMA Award's and captioned it: "My mechanic girlfriend #DoLikeThat." A fan saw his post and replied: "she's different from you. she no wear go award" korede simply reply the fan sarcastically. He wrote: who ask you? Differentiator.  Differentiate calculus,. Uncle Soyinka, clap for your self.

Chidima unveils new music label

The MTN project fame singer, Chidinma, has decided to take matters into her hands by creating a record label for herself. Her story in recent times has been like that of "a runaway bride." Lol. She got the internet buzzing some days back. When word got to some of her fans, they supposed she had finally decided to come up with a new music for them since it had been a while. But to their greatest amazement, the buzz was rather because the singer strangely decided to rid her Instagram page of all pictures she had posted there.

On the early hours of that day, The "Emi ni Baller" crooner declared her intentions of dropping a new song titled; "Fallen In Love." She actually did as she promised. But on doing this, she made to delete every single photo she had posted on her Instagram before then, leaving only the ones she took with fellow singer, Flavor N'abania; a picture they were seen striking a pose together. That left fans puzzled, as the act was kind of strange and unexpected.

But then, a short while later, she made to take down even those photos of herself and Flavor, leaving only some pictures of herself posing. In that process, she revealed that the earlier speculations of her being signed to Flavor's music label are untrue. Instead, the singer unveiled a music label known as "40FIED Music Company". While many were still wondering what that was, as it had never been heard on the Nigerian music scene before, Chidinma made it known that it was her own Music Label. Chidinma is now her own boss!

Phyno eulogises Olajumoke in his new ghetto gospel hit: "joy comes in the morning"

The Enugu State rapper, whose music genre is more or less considered to be a "Ghetto Gospel," has come up with another inspiring and motivational hit titled "Joy comes in the morning." The hit was produced by Major Bangs as usual. And Phyno exceptionally made reference to Olajumoke, the bread seller who miraculously became a high profile model when he said: "o kwanwanyina-ele bread ka a na-enye standing ovation."

The Igbo rapper's words translate thus in English: "Isn't the bread-seller girl the one now being given standing ovations?" Singing further about temptations, the "Karashika" crooner noted that they come to trouble a man's life, but last only for a while. The much celebrated "ghetto gospel" act advised via the same song that folks should rid their minds of hate in order to achieve success.

This new track follows the trend of his other songs like "Connect", "FadaFada" etc., considering the soul-cheering message it carries. What better motivational song do we need in this trying time? Download "Joy comes in the morning." by Phyno "Alobam" and cheer your dear soul.

Appeal court strikes out suit against Oba of Benin. Edo govt

BENIN—THE Court of Appeal sitting in Benin City, presided over by Justice Olukayode Bada, has upheld the Appeal filed against Chief Rich Arisco Osemwengie and others by the Edo State Government, the Benin Traditional Council, BTC, and others, following alleged attempt by Chief Osemwengie and others to usurp the powers and ridicule the stool of the Oba of Benin.
The appellate court said the High Court in Benin which earlier ruled in favour of Chief Osemwengie and others who were challenging the validity of the Traditional Rulers and Chieftaincy Edit of 1979, erred because the suit filed “by Osemwengie and others against the governor of Edo State and the BTC at the High Court Benin City is status barred and does not disclose the reasonable cause of action.”
It will be recalled that Chief Osemnwengie and others were earlier charged by the Edo State Government at the Oredo Magistrate Court for allegedly waging communal war and installing a traditional ruler without lawful authority as prohibited by the Traditional Rulers and chieftaincy edit of 1979 of the then Bendel State, as applicable to Edo State.
Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State presents the Staff of Office to His Royal Majesty, Omo n’Oba n’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, Oba of Benin after his coronation, Thursday
However, Justice Bada ordered that the suit filed by Chief Osemwengie at the High Court against the governor of Edo State and the BTC be struck out since they were instituted outside the time limit stipulated by the status of limitation of Bendel State as applicable in Edo State, noting that the law they were relying on which existed during the Midwest region had been repealed by the Traditional and chieftaincy Edit of 1979, therefore they had no locus standi to institute a suit in the first place against the state governor and the BNC.
Justice Bada who upheld the Appeal filed by the Edo State governor and the BTC and others, noted that the Respondents (Chief Osemwengie and others) had been in slumber for 37 years but “suddenly woke up from their slumber even when they have no reasonable cause of action as they are only recognized as a chief in the palace of the Oba of Benin (Ogiamien of Benin Kingdom) as indicated by the extant law”.
Reacting to the court ruling yesterday, Counsel to the Edo State government and the BTC, Chief Charles Edosomwan (SAN) leading O.A.Aimiuwu Esq and Douglas Ogbankwa, described the judgment as victory for the Benin traditional institution and the people of the Kingdom.

Catholic priest who married two wives

Catholic priest who married 2 wives
Parishioners at Queen of Apostles Catholic Church, Kakuri parish, Kaduna State, are still in shock following revelation that the parish priest, Very Reverend Father Peter Zuni, 54, was engaged in a secret marriage to two women.
This act has led to him being disrobed and sacked from the priesthood. According to Sun, one of the wives is already late, while the surviving one who blew the whistle about three weeks ago over the secret marriage is said to be nursing a child for the priest.
Going by the doctrine of the Catholic Church, only unmarried men are ordained into the priesthood as they are obligated to swear to an oath of celibacy and observe perfect and perpetual service for the sake of the kingdom of heaven.
This, it is believed, would enable the priests to easily remain close to Christ with an undivided heart, and dedicate themselves more freely to the service of God and the congregation.
When Sun visited the premises of the Queen of the Apostles parish, some parishioners confirmed the report, which they said was initially thought to be mere rumour.
The parishioners who spoke on condition of anonymity said they were shocked and surprised to learn of a petition to the Bishop of Kaduna Archdiocese, Bishop Ndagoso Manoso, that two women had children for their parish priest, an act considered to be an abomination and grave sin against the Catholic doctrine.
They pointed out that in order to cover up the priest’s ‘sin’ from spreading to the larger public, the Archdiocese allegedly organised a send off for the embattled priest to a remote village in Jaba Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
“During the send off, the priest was not allowed to make a farewell speech, and many people refused to take photographs with him. There was little or no felicitation with him because most of the time he was seen standing aloof under a mango tree without anybody going close to him.
“Nobody can say when the priest committed the alleged sinful act. If it happened before his ordination, he wouldn’t have been ordained, so probably it was after his ordination, and you know, God does not sleep, no matter the length of cover up, one day the bubble will burst. And the bubble has burst now,” the parishioner said.
Priest’s Reaction
However, when Sun contacted the disrobed priest on his telephone line, and sought comments on his alleged controversial transfer from the city to a remote village, he said: “Nobody is ordained to remain and work in the city. I have spent five years as parish priest of Queen of Apostles, so I can work anywhere, city or village.”
On the allegation of his involvement in secret marriage to two women who bore children for him even as a Catholic priest, he neither denied nor confirmed the allegation. Rather he said: “I find it difficult myself to believe what people are saying about me. I will not comment on it now. I will follow due process to invite you for an interview.”
Rev Fr. Zuni said he is currently based in Suleja, Niger State. But Sun gathered that parishioners were made to believe that the embattled priest was transferred to Gumel village in southern Kaduna, while he was actually sacked from the priesthood.

Jigawa  State Govt.  To wed 130 in mass wedding

On July 16, the Jigawa Government set up a 19-member committee to organise mass weddings for widows and divorcees in the state.

The government said the aim of the exercise was to check social vices among the people of the state.

Nigerian Executed in Singapore For drugs Tracffing

Singapore on Friday executed a Nigerian national,  Chijioke Stephen Obioha, convicted of drug trafficking, after last-minute appeal was rejected.
“A 38-year-old male Nigerian national, Chijioke Stephen Obioha, had his death sentence carried out on 18 November 2016 at Changi Prison Complex,” the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) said in a statement.
Obioha was arrested on April 9, 2007 with more than 2.6 kilograms of cannabis, surpassing the statutory amount of 500 grams presumed as drug trafficking in Singapore.
Meanwhile, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa described the execution as heartbreaking despite repeated calls on Nigerians to desist from criminal activities like drug peddling.
In a statement by her Special Assistant on Media, Abdur-Rahman Balogun in Abuja said that  since Singapore is determined to enforce its laws as a deterrent to drug trafficking, which has reduced as a result of its stringent capital punishment , nothing much can be done except to continue to appeal.
"While we regret the death sentence passed on the Nigerian, we once again appeal to Nigerians to avoid crimes like drug trafficking with most countries especially in Asia declaring zero tolerance for drug trafficking," Dabiri-Erewa stated.
She reiterated her appeal to Nigerians to avoid drug peddling in their host countries as laws of countries, whether acceptable or not, will be difficult to influence.

9 Words you can use to make a woman feel she is sexy

Need to tell a woman how sexy she is without being too obvious or repetitive? This is the article you've been looking for.

It gets quite boring telling a woman she is sexy all the time.

Remember that time she wore that dress with the teasingly low neckline? You called her sexy.
You also called her sexy on that day she wore that sexy jean and she was all shades of hot.
You've also used the word on many other occasions. It gets tiring after a while.
Women are moved by what they hear, and you need to upgrade from saying the same compliment all the time if you want that flirtation between you both to become even better.

When you see that drop-dead gorgeous lady you have been crushing on, and you've run out of words to describe her, simply because she always find new ways to blow your mind to bits, here are extra words you can turn to.

1. Tell her she’s enticing. Afterall her very presence draws you in effortlessly, doesn’t it?

2. Tell her she’s captivating. It’s not just about her curves and smoking-hot body, there’s something about the entire package, the entirety of her femininity which totally captures your imagination.

3. Tell her she’s alluring if you feel her sexiness actually drawing and luring you to her. This is not as bland as just saying she is sexy.

It gives it an extra meaning.

Tell her she's fascinating if her body as well as her mind
Sexy to you
4. Call her sensuous when the flirtation gets really deep and it is only a matter of time before you both seal the deal.
Calling her this shows her the picture that you do not find her sexy just for the sake of it. You find her sexy and you’d probably give anything to unravel that sexy.

5. Call her fascinating. This is another word that shows that she is sexy to you not just because of her impressive body features. It’s more than that.

6. Call her ravishing. This portends a sexiness that is at least three times more intense.

Police Facing Massive 116,000 Personnel Shortage

Inspector-general of police, Ibrahim Idris, says the Nigerian police needs additional 116,510 personnel to reach maximum strength to police the entire population.
Speaking in Abuja at a dinner by the Alumni Association of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Idris said current police strength of 338,490 means there's only one police officer for every 537 Nigerians.
The United Nations recommends a ratio of one police for every 400 civilians.
Idris blamed the shortage in manpower on the lack of rank and file recruitment since 2010, insisting it had depleted capacity for community policing.
Some 10,000 people are to join the police in the first-ever recruitment in more than five years.
"In order to enhance the confidence and trust of the public, the current administration has decided to coopt the community and religious leaders, as well as civil society organisations, in the screening and  vetting of prospective candidates into the Force," said Idris.
He added that the coopting would ensure thorough vetting in "both character and merit."

Reccession: Demands For Family Planning Increases In Kogi

The present economic recession in Nigeria is having a profound impact on lower and modest-income couples in Kogi State as their demand for family planning has increased.
Mrs Ojone Akubo, Asst. Director, Nursing Services at Specialist Hospital, Lokoja, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), that the demand for family planning had been on the increase since March.
Akubo said the number of women coming for family planning was on the high side when compared to the same period in 2015.
“Women are now coming willingly to do family planning unlike before that one needs to cajole or entice them before agreeing to do such.
“According to our records, 236 persons did family planning from June to October 2016 compared to 129 that did during the same period in 2015.
“In October this year alone, 41 persons came to do family planning while it was only 19 in October 2015.
“Our service is free except for just a little token for registration. So, it does not cost anything for women to achieve their childbearing goals especially in this recession period”, she said.
Mrs Aishatu Momoh, the Chief Nursing Officer of Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Lokoja, also confirmed to NAN the increasing demand for family planning by couples.
According to Momoh, the present economic hardship in the country is really forcing couples to engage in family planning to reduce the number of children.
The Daily Family Planning Register of the National Health Management Information System, FMC, Lokoja; given to NAN, showed that there was a sharp increase in family planning from Aug. to Oct. 2016 compared to 2015.
According to the records, 782 persons came for family planning from June to October compared to 529 during the same period last year.
The register also revealed that in October alone, 171 persons came for family planning at FMC Lokoja, while it was only 121 in October 2015.
The same trend of increasing number of women demanding for family planning due to economic recession were also noticed in all private hospitals visited by NAN.
Some couples, who spoke to NAN at the hospitals, shared their various experiences on the recession and the reason for opting for family planning.
Mrs Earn Jimoh, a mother of two and a full time housewife, told NAN that she just needed to halt childbearing for now due to the present hardships.
“I am a full time housewife without a job or any business venture which has made my husband to be overloaded with responsibilities of family upkeep and other expenses.
“I and my husband have agreed to stop childbearing for now and that is the reason we are here to do family planning”, Jimoh said.
A mother of four, Mrs Rose Opanachi, told NAN that she already had four female children but believed God would provide a male child.
“But the economic recession is forcing me and my hubby to do family planning in order to stop childbearing, because my husband is a junior civil servant and I am a petty trader.
“We believe God that if things get better in the nearest future, we will still have our male child”, Opanachi said.

Between Africa And ICC

                                          International Criminal Court (ICC)  Complex

A fortnight ago Gambia declared its intention to withdraw from the International Criminal Court [ICC] amid growing fears of a mass African exodus from the world body designed to prosecute those who commit the gravest atrocities. Gambia’s move came a few days after South Africa began the formal process of withdrawal from the Rome Statute, ICC’s founding treaty.  Burundi also announced its intention to withdraw in due course.
Gambia described ICC as a racist organisation which is “involved in the persecution and humiliation of people of colour, especially Africans.” Gambia’s Information Minister Sheriff Bojang said ICC had been used “for the persecution of Africans and especially their leaders” while ignoring crimes committed by Westerners. He singled out the case of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, who the court decided not to indict over the 2003 Iraq war. “There are many Western countries, at least 30, that have committed heinous war crimes against independent sovereign states and their citizens since the creation of ICC but not a single Western war criminal has been indicted,” he said, adding that ICC “is in fact an International Caucasian Court.”

The feeling that ICC is only there to punish African leaders has gained traction across the continent. Recently, Namibia, Uganda and Kenya also raised the possibility of pulling out.
All six cases that are ongoing or about to begin at ICC involve people from African states. That said, all but one of those cases were brought by African nations themselves or the UN Security Council. ICC, set up in 2002, has also struggled with lack of cooperation from powers such as USA, which has signed the court’s treaty but never ratified it. South Africa’s government announced its decision to withdraw after a row over its decision to grant free passage to Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, who is wanted by the court.
ICC has appealed to African countries to reconsider their stand. In a statement on ICC’s website, president of the assembly of member states Sidiki Kaba said he fears the path Africa appears to be taking. Without doubt, African states pulling out of the world body will be a major blow as they constitute the largest regional bloc in ICC membership. The action could be a setback to the project of ‘ending impunity’ for atrocity crimes, which is ICC’s primary goal as stated in the preamble of the Rome Statute.
Aside from allegations of anti-African bias and neo-colonialism, local or regional politics stood behind  recent decisions to pull out. The Nigerian government has said it has no intention of pulling out from ICC. That notwithstanding, we urge all African Union member states to adopt a common position on this matter. There should either be a wholesale African withdrawal or we should at least push for a review of the Rome Statute at AU’s next summit meeting in January.
ICC was established for the purpose of trying serious crimes including genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and acts of aggression. With the 1994 Rwandan genocide in mind, Africa was instrumental to ICC’s establishment.  We thought we needed an independent criminal court free from politics. In reality, the reverse is the case. ICC has failed to initiate investigations in some superpower states and has appeared to be a hegemonic tool of the Western powers.
Still, we Africans have been humiliated by ICC because of the failure of our leaderships and systems. The inability of our national courts to address grave crimes committed on our shores led African governments to refer their cases to ICC. There is the need to strengthen our weak judicial systems. Each African state must develop the capacity to effectively investigate and prosecute international crimes committed within its borders. If that is done, we would have no further need for ICC.
